#1131 Providence, RI $10.00 1902 Plain Back, The Merchants National Bank, VF
#624, with treasury signatures of Judson W. Lyons as Register of the Treasury and Ellis H. Roberts as Treasurer of The United States. This note exhibits strong legible stamped bank signatures of F. Greene as cashier of the bank, and Robert W. "The Merchants National Bank of Providence, Rhode Island" was Chartered in 1865. The total issue of Large Size notes was 2,396,170 banknotes. There were 27 National Banks that issued large size National Currency in Providence, Rhode Island. Only one bank was slightly more common. The note has a tight cut along the top boarder on the front but not quite touching the holding line above the design. The note has vivid colors with some brightness and crispness remaining. I do not see any rips, tears, or splits but I do see one tiny pinhole at the base of the " T " in TEN DOLLARS, just above the Cashiers Stamped Signature. The Kelly Census shows 120 large size notes reported on this bank. This note is new to the census, the new owner can report this note, if they so choose. This note would make a fine addition to any Rhode Island National Banknote collection!
This bank is located in Providence County, so it should appeal to people collecting National Banknotes from that and the surrounding counties. Don't let this note get away! Please feel free to contact me with any questions, or if you need a better scan of the item. Good Luck & Happy Hunting!
